Ford Fiesta 40 Years

This year marks the fortieth anniversary of Ford Fiesta. To pay tribute we take a look back over the years at some of the most iconic models.

Ford Fiesta and 1976

We thought we would start looking back to 1976. Many will remember 76 for its summer, the UK saw temperatures of over 32c for an impressive 15 consecutive days. However, did you also know that 1976 was the year that Concorde set off on its first Commercial flight? Over in California, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak were busy launching their new technology company Apple and The Body Shop opened its first store here in the UK.

A hand full of celebrities also share the same birthday with our beloved Ford Fiesta including actors Ryan Reynolds and Colin Farrell, not to mention the Brazilian sporting legend that is Ronaldo. Sylvester Stallone starred in what was to become the first of the Rocky franchise but best of all you could get a whole gallon of petrol for just 77p!

Iconic Ford Fiesta

 Ford Fiesta mk1

Over the last 40 years, Ford has brought us a vast variety of impressive Fiestas. The MK1 model back in 1976 was the first of many. In just four years Ford had sold over a million Fiestas. The MK1 offered an affordable yet stylish compact car for the recession-stricken economy. See Seven Generations of Ford Fiesta for more details.

Ford Fiesta XR2One of the most popular models of Ford Fiesta came in mid-80’s with the XR2. At the time, the XR2 was considered one of the best hot hatches on the market. Over 150,000 were sold and at just 840kg the XR2 could get from 0-60 in just 10.2 seconds.

Another iconic model is the MK5 Zetec S. Ford Fiesta Zetec SThis generation is also referred to as the facelift version of the MK4. The Zetec S was by far the most popular choice when of trim as it came with an upgraded body kit, lower suspension, sportier wheels and a punchy 1.6-liter petrol engine.

Ford Fiesta STCurrently, the sportier Fiesta Model is the Ford Fiesta ST. Many will compare the ST to the XR2 and it’s easy to see why. The 2013 ST will do 0-60 in a very impressive 6.7 seconds but still produce a fuel efficiency level of 47mpg.

In the UK alone Ford has sold over four million Fiestas over the last 40 years, making it the best-selling car in Britain. In fact, it has been the best-selling car for the last seven years. See Ford Fiesta: Britain’s car of choice to read more.

It seems clear that the Ford Fiesta is here to stay, maybe even for another 40 years? Who knows, but what is for sure is that if you are looking for an affordable Ford Fiesta, you needn’t look anywhere else then Fiesta4Less. Click here to view our full range.
